Your First Visit

On your first visit to the clinic you will be greeted by our friendly staff who will ask you to complete a New Patient form. This will provide your chiropractor with general details of your overall health and well-being. It would help us if you could bring a list of any medication or supplements that you are currently taking. Once you have completed the form, your Chiropractor will personally take you to one of our treatment rooms.

The initial consultation for new patients or for someone who has not received treatment from us for some time takes one hour and includes the following:

Consultation and Case History

The Chiropractor will take a thorough medical history. This may include questions regarding accidents, illnesses, hospitalisations, or lifestyle issues.

All patient information is handled with the strictest confidentiality.

Examination

A thorough physical examination will follow. Chiropractors are highly skilled clinicians in the field of musculo-skeletal healthcare and many different tests may be performed including orthopaedic, neurological and chiropractic. For instance your reflexes and muscle strength may be assessed and if you are suffering from headaches we may take your blood pressure, pulse and may shine a light into the back of your eyes. Depending on your specific case, you may require x-rays. These are normally taken and developed on your initial consultation, although hospital x-rays are normally requested if taken recently.

We actively encourage questions, so that you can feel confident you understand exactly what is happening and can be in the best possible position to share responsibility for your recovery and future health.

Based on the findings, the Chiropractor will decide whether any additional investigations are required before treatment may commence.

Report of Findings

Having reviewed all the information, the chiropractor will explain in detail the possible causes of your condition and the appropriate management. Your Chiropractor will write down a report of findings and document your treatment plan.

A re-examination date is set for the future to repeat the tests and a report is given to you at this time to show your progress objectively.

Referral

As 'primary healthcare practitioners', chiropractors are able to diagnose a wide variety of complaints. If after the initial consultation Chiropractic treatment is not indicated or deemed appropriate, it is our policy to refer patients back to their GP or to other practitioners, such as an orthopaedic surgeon, neurologist or other complementary practitioner. We are also able to refer patients directly for further imaging including MRI.

Treatment

Treatment may commence on the first visit, if it is appropriate to do so.

On your second and subsequent visits, your Chiropractor will firstly go through a quicker, more focused examination in order to establish how your musculo-skeletal function is improving.  Following this, a treatment will be carried out in a similar manner to your first treatment, again honed to be suitable for you and your complaint at this stage of your recovery.
